Dear FIDE Principals and Congress Participants,
Dear Federation Presidents and Dignitaries,
Dear National Teams and Captains,
Dear Arbiters, Trainers and all Chess Professionals,
Dear Chess Lovers and Potential Visitors,
Honoured Chess Community,
On behalf of the Hungarian Chess Federation and the Local Organizing Committee of the 2024 Chess Olympiad and FIDE Congress, it is my pleasure to invite all FIDE Members and Affiliated Organisations to Budapest, Hungary, on the occasion of the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad and the 95th FIDE Congress to be held in mid-September 2024. Hungary gave home to the first unofficial Chess Olympiad for teams in 1926 and won the first two official editions in 1927 and 1928, respectively. We were there at the beginning, and now we are back to celebrate FIDE’s 100 th anniversary at the centenary Congress during the Olympiad.
In the recent years, the sports policy of our Government brought a couple of major sport events to Hungary from FINA World Championships through UEFA Europa League Final to the World Athletics Championships. It is an honour for us to host all the nations, and to repeatedly be a meeting point for the international world of sports. But chess is even more than this. Chess is more than just international. It is global, as we have a common language. This is of exceptional value. Let us capitalise on this and make it a wonderful event for all of us! We’ll try to do our best, looking forward to seeing you in Budapest, Hungary, from 10 to 23 September at the 2024 Chess Olympiad and FIDE Congress!
